Safeguarding Children

Statement of Compliance 30/09/2009

NHS Mid Essex is committed to ensuring appropriate Safeguarding children arrangements are in place. In light of the publication of the Care Quality Commission Report following their review of NHS arrangements for safeguarding children (July 2009) NHS Mid Essex, including Central Essex Community Services is declaring it has effective safeguarding arrangements in place and is compliant in the following area:

Statutory requirements in relation to criminal bureau checks

  • Up to date and robust child protection policies and systems, including a process for following up children who miss appointments and a system for flagging children for whom there are safeguarding concerns.
  • Safeguarding training at level one undertaken and up to date by all eligible staff.
  • Clarity of role and sufficient time and support for designate and/or named professionals.
  • Board level Executive Director Lead for safeguarding. Board Review annually of safeguarding and robust audit programme in the organisation to assure that safeguarding systems and processes are working.

The NSPCC Helpline has launched a mobile phone texting service which will allow members of the public to contact the Helpline by texting 88858. 

 

For the Channel Islands the number is 07786200001 (networks standard message rate applies). 

 

Members of the public can use the text service to seek advice and assistance and also to report concerns that may need follow up action or investigation.  The service will be run on a pilot basis in the first instance until the end of 2011.

 

The public can send a text anonymously if they wish at no cost to themselves.  On receipt of the text the Helpline will send an immediate automated confirmation response and then a specific response to their enquiry from a Helpline practitioner within three hours.
